Minutes of Meeting, 1900 Wednesday 19th July 2000
Surrey Docks Watersports Centre.

Present

Aden Adenwalla, Graham Sewell, Paul Hanson, Pauline Adenwalla, Daphne Ferrigan, David Brunskill, Hugh Closs, Henry Bottomley, Janet Hodge, Tina Colquhoun, Nick Brunskill, Nick Frost.

Formation of the Canada Water Campaign Association.

1. Introduction

David Brunskill outlined the background to his involvement in the planning process for Canada Water and tabled a proposed agenda for the meeting (attached).

Following general discussion David Brunskill was appointed Chairman of the meeting.

2. Aims of the Association.

There was extensive discussion following which the following aims were adopted following unanimous approval.

2.1 To constructively participate in regeneration proposals for the plots of land surrounding Canada Water and adjacent to Canada Water Tube Station.

To do so by:

2.2 preventing the destruction of Canada Water and its wildlife habitat;
2.3 maintaining an overview and commenting on any further related development proposals;
2.4 preserving the environment for the long term benefit of all residents of the Surrey Quays Peninsula.

3 To establish an association of individuals committed to these aims.

A motion was formally put to the meeting that an association to be known as the "Canada Water Campaign" should be formed.

Proposed Pauline Adenwalla Seconded: Graham Sewell

Carried unanimously.

4 Action Steps to promote the above aims.

The following was resolved unanimously

4.1 That the association should request the appropriate authorities to include the association in the consultation process.

4.2 That the association should co-ordinate its activities with any umbrella groups or other associations involved in the dialogue.

4.3 That the aims of the Association and information about its activities should be posted on a website to be established.

4.4 That the association should focus on Sunday 20th August 2000 as a day for provision of information to the public and for promotion of the campaign.

5. Next meeting

1900 Thursday 10th August 2000, again at the Watersports Centre, Rope Street.

To prevent to destruction of Canada Water and its wildlife habitat

To constructively participate in regeneration proposals for the plots of land surrounding Canada Water and adjacent to Canada Water Tube Station

To maintain an overview and comment on any further related development proposals for the Decathlon and Surrey Quays shopping complexes.

To do so in such a way that the environment is preserved for the long term benefit of all residents of the Surrey Quays Peninsula

3. To establish an association of residents committed to these views.

4. Action Steps to promote the above aims

Develop a plan of action to disseminate information to residents.

Liaise as appropriate with news media, other related interest groups and the London Borough of Southwark.

Request appropriate authorities to include the association in the consultation process and co-ordinate the associations activities with any umbrella groups involved in the dialogue
