BRANCH MEETS TO CHOSE CANDIDATES FOR MAY COUNCIL ELECTIONS

It's not long now till the people of Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks go to the polls to decide who they want to represent their interests at Southwark Town Hall, which runs a whole range of public services stretching from street cleaning to libraries, schools to old people's homes.

The old Dockyard Ward is to be split into two new Wards because of the huge increase in the area's population so in May we will return six new councillors to replace the current three.

So the Branch is to meet on 28th January at its usual venue Trinity Hall at 7.30 pm to draw up a shortlist of candidates to stand for us in both wards in the May elections. Then one week later, in accordance with Party rules, we meet again - same time, same place - on 4th February to make final selections, subject to the approval of the Southwark Labour Party and the NEC.

We'd love you to come along and join in. We'd welcome anyone who wishes to stand to put themselves forward. Oh, and after the procedural business, we'll be having a normal meeting to discuss our business - so as we have not met as a Branch since November last year, come along and see your friends and colleagues again this year.
