Dear Colleagues,

Seasonal greetings and best wishes for 2001 - which will be a great year for the local party.

Thank you very much for participating in the process which selected me as your Prospective Parliamentary Candidate to contest the next general election against the LibDems. We have a historic opportunity to WIN back North Southwark and Bermondsey for Labour, after seventeen wasted LibDem years.

Kingsley Abrams

We aim to have an effective Labour voice in Parliament who can influence our Government, and represent ALL of the people in this vibrant and multi-cultural constituency. We will be fighting the campaign on the policies of the local party - housing, regeneration, fighting crime, transport and earnings-linked pensions.

We are in the process of setting up Labour Action Teams in every Ward, which every member can be part of. The first tasks of these teams will be the voter registration campaign, leafletting and highlighting national Government policies. We will be working with Southwark Council, the London Mayor, and our Government to fight for a second term, with North Southwark and Bermondsey represented by a Labour MP and campaign to increase the number of Labour Councillors in this constituency in the 2002 elections.

I or one of my representatives will be attending the Ward meetings to discuss the campaign in more detail. Members who want to help now should contact either myself on: 0956 281 650 or Marion Roberts, the Constituency Chair on 7701-5691 (phone and fax). Below is a slip for you to indicate what help you could give to the campaign to defeat Simon Hughes. Please return the slip to Marion Roberts.

I look forward to your support in the forthcoming campaign.

Yours sincerely,

KINGSLEY ABRAMS

Labour's Parliamentary Spokesperson for North Southwark and Bermondsey
