Thursday 8 March meeting:
Stephanie Elsy, Leader of Southwark Council
We've landed
another big name guest to come to our next Branch Meeting on
Thursday March 8th - Stephanie Elsy, Labour Leader of Southwark
Council.
Continuing in our now well established
tradition, Stephanie's visit will be the latest of a range of
guests who've already come to Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks Branch
this year - our Greater London Assembly representative Val
Shawcross, our very own Bermondsey councillor and Southwark
Council Cabinet Leader of Regeneration, Steve Lancashire and our
Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the General Election,
Kingsley Abrams.
Stephanie knows only too well the lack
of representation for Labour supporters in Rotherhithe. She hears
plenty of the constant negative swiping and moans and groans of
the LibDems sitting in the Council Chamber. So take this
opportunity - let's beef up our profile right now and get
Stephanie involved in the issues dear to us in Rotherhithe so we
can win some Council seats at the next local elections in May
2002. Think about it - it's not that far off.
Would you consider
standing for Labour for the Council and would you like to know
what it's all about? Do you have a burning issue you'd like to
discuss with the Council Leader? Well, you've got no excuses -
come to the March 8th Branch Meeting and take things to the top.
Stephanie knows Rotherhithe well. She
has visited our Branch each year since 1999 when chosen as Chair
of Education at the Town Hall, so who better to come and listen
to over the vexed question of a new secondary school for
Rotherhithe.
We want to see as many members as
possible at our meetings which is why we invite civic leaders
like Stephanie to come and see us. So make a date in your Diary
now - that's 8pm, Trinity Halls, Bryan Road, on Thursday 8th
March.
