Working on the
classification, monitoring, forecasting and analysis of all UK
public and government expenditure. The work included:
classifying government
expenditure by economic category as well as purpose;
monitoring in-year estimates
of expenditure against plans;
forecasting expenditure for
future years;
analysing long-term trends
in expenditure in the 20th century;
reconciling the three
measures used (general government expenditure in the
national accounts, public expenditure as used for
planning and control, and voted expenditure as approved
by Parliament and audited);
handling the treatment of
public receipts (for example blocking the proposed
treatment of dog licences as negative public
expenditure);
contributions to
publications such as the Public Expenditure White Paper
and the Budget Report.
