A succession of roles covering sponsorship and monitoring of the electricity industry, preparation of the industry for competition and privatisation, and finally sale of the industry. This included:

• monitoring of annual plans of the industry;

• preparation of legislation and regulations for the new industry, including effective introduction of competition where possible, and price controls where not;

• establishment of new half-hourly spot market for electricity;

• contracts for use of transmission and distribution networks by generators and other suppliers;

• arrangements for Anglo/French and Anglo/Scottish links;

• sale of shares, including incentives to workers and customers, and allocation of shares when oversubscribed;

• responsibility for prospectus for sale of companies in London, Midlands, North West, and Merseyside & North Wales;

• relationships with the European Commission, including DG15 on fair opportunities for other EU citizens to buy shares, and DG4 on first steps towards liberalisation of European electricity markets;

• managing up to 3 staff.
