Don't forget to vote Labour

News from Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks Labour Party

on Southwark Council

General and Local Elections Thursday 6 May 2010

Many thanks to all those who voted Labour
and especially to those who worked in the campaign

After a record 13 years of Labour Party government, the result of the general election was a hung parliament:

Con 305; Labour 258; LD 57; NI MPs 18; SNP 6; PC 3; Green 1; Vacancy 1; Speaker 1.

In Bermondsey and Old Southwark, the Labour vote for Val Shawcross increased to 13,060 compared with 12,468 in 2005 in North Southwark and Bermondsey,
or perhaps more meaningfully up by 12% from the notional vote of 11,621 in 2005 based on the new boundaries:

LD 21590, Val Shawcross (Labour and Co-op) 13060, Conservative 7638, BNP 1370, Green 718, Ind 155 and 120.

Labour gains control of Southwark Council; vote up 125%

After 8 years of misrule of Southwark Council by the Lib-Dem-Con coalition, Southwark Labour was swept into a majority

Labour 35 seats   +7
Lib-Dem 25 seats   -3
Con 3 seats   -3
Green 0 seats   -1

Helped by the General Election turnout, the Labour votes went up by over 125% in Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks wards compared with the local elections in 2006 and the 2008 by-election. Full results were
