In the 9 October
2008 Rotherhithe by-election, to fill a vacant seat on
Southwark Council covering the western half of the peninsula, our
candidate Kath Whittam won
more votes for Labour when compared with the 2006
elections, despite the lower turnout. 2006 had seen an
increase in turn on the 2002 elections,
which was the first time the ward was contested on its current
boundaries. This means the October 2008 result was a new record
for
the Labour Party in Rotherhithe Ward.
The Tories saw their number of votes fall while the
Greens did not put up a candidate. The full result was
Loanna Morrison | Conservative | 255 votes |
Wilma Veronica Nelson | Liberal Democrat | 1,149 votes |
Kath Whittam | Labour Party |
